FALSE SOLOMON'S SEAL |
8:00 AM, 49 degrees, wind SE, calm. The sky is overcast, it is humid and the barometer again predicts rain.
The Denver family leaves this morning, we had a lot of fun and a very good visit and everyone has to get back to work, school and summer activities. We had a nice breakfast birthday party yesterday, we went to dinner at The Village Inn at Cornucopia yesterday evening, and then Joan and I babysat while everyone else went on the Bayfield Ghost Walk, which received rave reviews.
Lots of forest floor plants are blooming now, pictured is the tiny Canada mayflower,
Maianthemum canadense, and false Solomon’s seal,
Smilacina racemosa. The non-native lily-of-the-valley,
Convallaria majalis, often occupies the same ecological niche, spreading from abandoned gardens.
Mike at the Seagull Bay Motel says the big old neighborhood black bear has been taking his afternoon nap on the motel lawn. That’s O.K., but if he occupies a room he will have to pay the going rate.
