WE DODGED THE BULLET THIS TIME

ONLY A TRACE OF SNOW FROM THE BIG STORM

MAPLE SAP BUCKETS SHOULD FILL UP TODAY

Friday, 9:00 AM.  39 degrees F at the Ferry Dock, 36 on the back porch.  Wind WNW, moderately strong with very strong gusts.  The sky had been clear, but is rapidly filling with clouds blown in from the NW and it looks like it will be a partly to mostly cloudy day.  The humidity is 80% after last night's dusting of snow.  The barometer stands at 29.81" and is rising rapidly.  Warmer weather, in the 40's, 50's and perhaps as high as 60 degrees is predicted for next week.  Maple sap should flow freely today.
We were braced for waking up to 3"-5" of snow this morning, and we got less than an inch or so.  The big weather event simply fizzled out this far north, while severe weather did much damage to our south.  We have been living on the edge of an almost continental mass of unsettled weather, that spawned thunder storms and tornadoes from the Midwest to the Northeast, threatening major cities from St. Louis and Chicago to New York and Washington, DC.
Bayfield weather is often better, believe it or not, than that of regions to the south of it.  Many storms veer away from the Big Late and take a more southerly route from east to west. We are vulnerable to weather systems and cold air masses coming out of Canada to our northwest, but are usually on the fringe of the big storms sweeping up out of the Southwest or the Gulf.
We dodged the bullet this time.
