FLOWERNIG CRABAPPLE TREES, USED AS ORCHARD POLINATORS |
APPLE ORCHARD TREES ARE BLOOMING, THE BEST SPRING I HAVE SEEN |
Friday, 9:15 AM. 68 degrees F on both thermometers. Wind variable and mostly calm, the sky clear and the humidity a very low 45%, The barometer has begun to drop, now at 29.99". Today should be nice but it will be a cooler and rainy weekend, with cool temperatures and clear skies next week.
Sorry there was no post yesterday, our internet, telephone and TV were all out because road construction cut a major cable on Hwy. 13 coming into Bayfield. Red Cliff was also down, the outage lasting about twenty hours. We have become overly dependent on just a few sources of communication.
We took an evening ride about dusk yesterday, and found the apple orchards very beautiful, perhaps more so than any other year in our time here. We also saw a true Teddy Bear, a bear cub the size of a small dog, that scurried across the road about twenty yards in front of our slow moving truck; too quick for me to get a photograph with the new Cannon Power Shot I bought in Ashland on Wednesday. Mama bear must have crossed the road first. Glad we weren't walking.
Other news on the wildlife front: We have been seeing Tundra Swans on lower Chequamegon Bay. It seems awfully late to be making the long spring flight north to the breeding grounds. Large flocks came through in late March and in April.
OFF THE CUFF
We are fast becoming a society that demands the accused prove their innocence rather than the state prove their guilt. This is the direct result of a corrupt media publishing leaked and unsubstantiated materials, even police videos, which results in targeted persons being tried and convicted in the court of public opinion even before entering a court of law.
The latest case in point is the stolen or leaked police video of golf pro Tiger Woods, appearing to be drunk or drugged, and played all over TV. I am not a Tiger Woods fan and have no interest in golf, but neither he nor any other American should have their right to a fair Grand Jury process abridged, and if indited, to a fair trail, by such corruption.
The rights of every American are now under assault, and reporters, publishers and their accomplices should be going to jail for it.
