BIBOONG..."WHEN IT IS WINTER"

BIBOONG...WHEN IT IS WINTER...

...BUDDY ISN'T MUCH HELP

Thursday,  10:00 AM.  11 degrees F, wind calm. The sky is overcast, the  sun just now beginning to make a dent in the gloom.  The humidity is 83%.  We got another 3" of icy snow last night.  The temperature is falling and moisture laden snow is starting to freeze tight.  The barometer is more or less steady at 29.79".  I've got things pretty well cleaned up (until the city plow comes by again) and will take a breakfast break.  I kept thinking the cold snap is unusual for early December, but I checked records back to 2000 and this is pretty normal.  Biboong (Ojibay language) "When it is winter," this is what it is like in Bayfield, Wisconsin.
The snow storm just now ending has been one of the worst I have experienced in the more than thirteen years we have lived in Bayfield, depositing over ten inches of snow in twenty four hours, that on top of six or eight inches from the storm of several days ago. There is probably two feet of snow on the ground now.   It was a very wet snow, which made it difficult to shovel (snow blowers found it tough going as well).  Freezing fog accompanied the snow, and visibility was poor for several days,  The winds were strong as well, but there was ittle drifting because the snow was so wet and sticky.
There has not been much road traffic in Bayfield, as schools were cancelled and folks are pretty much staying home.    The city and county road crews have kept roads open, but the driving conditions have been very poor.   Things should improve today.
