I HOPE THEY HAVE A GAME PLAN

ASHLAND GREEN ASH TREE
Wednesday, 8:30 AM. 64 at the ferry dock, 62 on the back porch. Wind ESE, mostly calm with light gusts.  The sky is overcast and foggy, the humidity 87% after thunderstorms last night that left another 1.5" of rain.  The barometer is steady, at 29.92".  The high temperature today will be in the high 60's, with continuing thunderstorms.  It will cool to around 60 tomorrow, with clear skies.
The tree that grew in Brooklyn was an Ailanthus,  a tree of heaven. The tree(s) that grow in Ashland, Wisconsin are...what else...ash trees; mostly green ash and  white ash.
The presence of ash trees in Ashland seems more noticeable this fall than I recall from other years, and I suspect it is due to the unusually wet and actually rather mild weather we have had, the ash trees being mostly yellow leaved and most of the other trees, except for red maples,  not showing much color as yet.
In any case, Ashland is visibly living up to its name, and the amount of ash trees in its street tree inventory is actually rather alarming, given the inevitability of the onslaught of the Emerald Ash Borer, which is now as close as Superior, sixty miles away to the west on US 2.
I hope they have a game plan.
