GREAT HOME COOKING IN FIEFEILD |
YOU KNOW YOU'RE IN WISCONSIN NOW |
THE FAST LANE BECAME THE SNOW LANE |
WHOOPS! |
Thursday, 8:00 AM. 33 degrees, wind W, calm. There is perhaps .5” of snow on roofs and railings, and a trace un-melted on the ground. It is snowing lightly now, big fluffy flakes. The barometer is down. Bayfield got a little rain yesterday as Southern Wisconsin got its first snowstorm, 4”-5” from Madison north to Minnaqua.
Traveling to Madison, we stopped for lunch at the Kountry Kafe in Feifield. Truly wonderful home cooking.
The Urban Forestry quarterly meeting in Madison worked hard on setting goals for itself for the next three to five years but when a large group acts as a committee of the whole it takes a lot of discipline and determination to get things done, particularly in a short time.
We went on from Madison to visit eldest daughter Greta in Columbus, Ohio for a few days. Unfortunately we had no time or opportunity to do any dog training or pheasant hunting, partly because we had vehicle trouble on the road and had to have a front wheel hub assembly replaced. It was a dangerous problem that shouldn’t occur at 66,000 miles. Lucky made the trip pretty well, he is recovering a bit more every day from his sabbatical under the bridge.
The drive through the snowstorm was a bit of a white knuckle experience, as there were few plow trucks out and there were a lot of accidents, mostly jackknifed semis and cars sliding off the road. I sure appreciated the pickup’s four-wheel drive. The news reported an accident with three deaths due to the storm.
Today we have to catch up with things, and tonight is the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and dinner. I also have to get out to my deer stands and check on deer activity, put up the trail camera and get bait down.
Political comment: I am glad I no longer have to deal with workplace protocol, I would probably have a sexual harassment charge every week, since I routinely complemented my employees on their appearance or actions if it was warranted, engaged in some small talk and even opened doors for them. Tried to be human. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t
