JUNEBERRY ON 9TH ST.
Wednesday, 8:00 AM. 33 degrees F, wind W, calm to very light. The sky is partly cloudy to overcast and we had a trace of snow again last night, which still clings to roofs and decks but is quickly melting. The humidity is 86% and the barometer is trending down, at 29.99".
It dried out enough yesterday that we got all the thousands of Bayfield daffodils fertilized, and I managed to mulch most of the leaves in the yard as well. We had to use 10-10-10 for the daffodils as I could get neither bonemeal nor Milorganite; I will try to put in a special, early order at the Ag Center for bonemeal next year. Bulbs have to be fertilized in order to maintain their vigor, and do best with a fertilizer high in potassium. There are still some leaves on the trees so a final attack with the mower may be necessary in a few days, weather permitting.
There are a few other leafy holdouts around, notably a large white Chrysanthemum in the herb garden; a still splendid Juneberry on 9th St.; and the spectacular gold-bronze tamarack in the back yard. There is still a considerable amount of fall color, but it won't be long until the only deciduous trees not stripped bare will be the red oaks.
Virtually everyone is now aware of the additional modifier the President has added to his oft-quoted statement about his health care plan: "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan. Period. If...blah, blah, blah..."
To which Speaker of the House John Boehner has replied with the following bit of doggerel:
If "ifs and buts"
Were candy and nuts
Every day would be Christmas
It looks to me as though the President's credibility is about as tenuous as those leafy Bayfield holdouts waiting for the next gust of wind.
