EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT! ROBINS SIGHTED IN BAYFIELD

FIRST ROBIN OF SPRING...

...AND DON'T CALL ME AN APRIL FOOL!..

...WELL, MAYBE IT IS A LITTLE EARLY...
Wednesday,  8:00 AM.  23 degrees F, wind northerly, light.  The sun shines brightly in a cloudless sky.  The humidity is 79% and the barometer has risen to 30.24".  If it were twenty degrees warmer it would be a fine spring day.
About Four PM yesterday we had a break in the snowstorm and the sun peaked through long enough to entice several robins out of the big white cedars trees on Old Military Road to scratch around  in a rare patch of   snowless leaf litter.  They must have flown in today as they are the first robins I have seen.  They seemed a bit dazed.
From what I have read they are probably males, migrating in advance of the females to establish their nesting territories.  Robins do not seem to be very definite in their migratory patterns and they may have come a long way, or not.  In any case they are here, and that is a hopeful sign. They won't find any worms as yet, but there are plenty of berries and crabapples. I hope they don't decide to pick up  their little AWOL bags and leave.
