LUPINES IN BLOOM |

YEARLING BEAR |
Thursday, 8:30 AM. 58 degrees at the ferry dock, 56 on the back porch. Wind WNW, light with moderate gusts. The sky has scattered clouds and the humidity is 78%. The barometer is rising, now at 29.94". Rain is predicted for tomorrow so I have trees to plant and lawn to get mowed today.
Spring flowers continue to come into bloom, among them Canada mayflower, AKA wild lily-of-the valley, Maianthemum canadense, in the Lily Family; and our biggest floral display, the lupins, Lupinus perennis, in the Pea Family. Lupins will be blooming in our fields and along our roadsides in the Bayfield region for at least the next two weeks, and are always worth a visit.
Returning from the Recycle Center on Hwy. 13 west of Red Cliff yesterday about 5:15 PM this yearling bear walked across the road. Sows shoo their mostly-grown, last year's cubs away to be on own at this time. One doesn't have to travel West to see black bears.
