A SEA MONSTER AND AN AWOL DOG

 STORM-TOSSED TREE ROOTS...
...EVOKING TALES  OF THE HORRIBLE KRAKEN...

THAT ATTACKED VIKING LONG BOATS AND DEVOURED THEIR CREWS

Wednesday, 8:30 AM.  42 degrees F at both the ferry dock and on the back porch.  Wind variable and calm, the sky clear, the humidity 75%.  The barometer is steady, at 30.03" of mercury.  The temperature will rise into the 60's today, with the chance of an evening thunder shower.  Tomorrow will be clear but somewhat cooler, with a chance of rain again on Friday, and nice spring weather for some days thereafter.  It looks like we finally have a lock on spring.
We never know what we will find washed up on the beach after a storm.  This storm tossed driftwood root system, as smooth as if it had been carefully sandpapered and about ten feet in diameter, was a dead ringer for a giant octopus, and evoked ancient tales of Norse seamen battling the terrible Kraken as it rose up from the deep to devour them.
Maybe it spooked Buddy, maybe not, but in any case he went AWOL for about an hour, and almost missed his ride home, and his supper.
