CONTRASTS

FALLEN SOLDIER: COTTONWOOD AMONG THE FIRS

COEXISTENCE: GERANIUM BASKET ON THE BACK PORCH

Wednesday, 8''30 AM.  30 degrees F at the ferry dock, 35 on the back porch.  Wind SSW, mostly calm with moderate gusts.  The sky is cloudy with some clearing, the humidity 71%.  The barometer has begun to fall, now at 29.93", predicting snow flurries by this afternoon or evening.  Highs in in the upper 30's, with some clearing tomorrow.  Buddy, who is a short haired dog,  says its winter out there.
The shock of the early snow is wearing off now, the changes in everyday surroundings becoming more acceptable, even beautiful.  The contrasts...white and black...horizontal and vertical...red and green against white...are bold and evocative of many things.  My mood has also improved immensely, in stark contrast to the last few days.
SNOWFLAKES
I counted till they danced so
Their slippers leaped the town,
And then I took a pencil
To note the rebels down.
And then they grew so jolly
I did resign the prig,
And ten of my once stately toes
Are marshalled for a jig!
