AN APPLEFEST SUNRISE |
THIS WILL WAKE YOU UP, LADDIES AND LASSIES |
HARD TO GET TO THE POST OFFICE |
CROWDED HWY. 13 |
THE TRUCK DECORATED FOR THE PARADE |
...SAYS IT ALL |
Sunday, 8:00 AM. 60 degrees, wind W, calm to light. The sky is overcast and it has rained a bit but the barometer is up and I think the final day of Applefest and the parade will be spared. I have never seen more traffic in and around Bayfield than yesterday, the weather and color being perfect for Applefest.
It has been a great event so far.
Yesterday morning I went to Port Superior, two miles south, and watched the Thunder Bay (Canada) Pipes and Drums do a wakeup “tattoo.” The pipes skirled, the drums beat, and everyone did indeed wake up. I have to admit the pipes can make the hair stand up on the back of my neck and I might just pick up the nearest broadsword or shillelagh if so commanded and march into battle behind them. They have been gracious enough to march in our parade for many years now.
All roads may lead to Rome, but only one leads into and out of Bayfield, and Hwy. 13 was jammed, crammed and damned to a snail ‘s crawl for much of yesterday afternoon.
Today being the big parade, and the truck is all decorated and ready to go, advertising next spring's Bayfield in Bloom and our tens of thousands of daffodils.
There are reports of a “big cat” on the Brownstone Trail that goes along the lakeshore from Bayfield to Port Superior. Probably a bobcat, but who knows? In any case, pussycats and yappy small dogs beware!
