Monday, 8:00 AM. 50 degrees, wind NE, calm. The sky is cloudless but quite hazy, and the barometer predicts rain, which we could use.
Phew! Applefest 2011 is history, and I am sure the statistics will prove historic. I’ll let you know numbers when I have them, but there were more than 75 entrants in the parade, which took two hours to pass by the reviewing stand. Our Bayfield in Bloom float (if it can be called that) drove the route twice, the second time with Jeff Wenz the Bayfield HS band director standing amongst hay bales on the back of the truck, directing the Mass Band (all the bands in the parade again assembled) as it plied the parade route in a grand finale, playing On Wisconsin, to the robust cheers of the crowds. I drove very carefully so as not to dump Jeff unceremoniously onto the pavement.
The next several days the blog will display parade photos with little commentary other than the captions. By noon today most of the carnival and concessions will be packed up and gone, the streets cleaned by volunteers and city crews, and everything back to small town normalcy.
Lucky seems to be on a plateau, neither getting much better nor much worse.
