5/14/11 A SALUTE TO BAYFIELD IN BLOOM, AND DAFFODILS ON THE FOURTH OF JULY

VILCOMEN

FULL PAVILION

GARDEN TALK RADIO SHOW

PLANTING THE ARBOR DAY TREE

"JA, YOU BETCHA!"

Saturday, 8:30 AM.  39 degrees, wind NE to N, strong and very gusty at times.  The sky is overcast but the barometer is up.  It may be a rough day on the lake, but welcome to Bayfield, "the banana belt of the great lakes."
The Bayfield in Bloom kickoff at the Pavilion, and the Garden Talk radio show, went extremely well, as did the Arbor Day tree planting.  The pavilion was full for the radio show, and the exhibitors by all accounts were very pleased.  Garden Talk has a radio audience of over ten thousand, so our Bayfield promotional efforts should be well worthwhile.  We had great cooperation from all quarters this year, even the ferry participating by sounding an ear-splitting salute as it passed the Pavilion. Our neighbor Captain Sherman who was responsible for it, called it a Captain’s Salute, which the ship captains on the lakes sound when they pass each other; one long blast on the horn, followed by two short.
The daffodils are still at their peak, and if this weather continues they may still be blooming for the Fourth of July. It has been a busy and rather tiring week, but everything came off as it should have and we all are very pleased.
