4/04/12 ALL IN ALL AN INTERESTING DAY

CLOUDLESS MORNING

IT'S A GAMBLE

DOCTORS DAY  OFF

HOT SPOT
Wednesday, 8:00 AM.  43 degrees F, wind N, calm.  The sky is completely cloudless but the barometer predicts rain at some future point.  Yesterday started out with the best of intentions of continuing yard work, but there were a lot of interruptions, starting with spending an hour or so selecting city trees to be pruned or removed, then going to the polls to vote.
Romney swept the primary elections in Maryland, District of Columbia and most importantly Wisconsin yesterday, and it seems he has all but wrapped up the nomination.  We are pleased.
We took Buddy to the vet in Ashland yesterday afternoon to get his shots up to date, and he was pronounced a healthy young dog.  Also very good looking.  And of course talented, if not always obedient.
On the way back we stopped to watch a fisherman in up to his armpits at the hot pond at the power plant and saw him catch a fish.  Too far away to see what it was.
We also stopped at the beach to take Buddy for a run and met a lone walker on the sand who was watching some distant mergansers and just puttering along the beach looking at things.  Turns out it was Washburn’s Dr. Kreuser, an independent general practitioner relaxing on his day off.
As we were leaving, a truck arrived with all sorts of advertising for bear hunting expeditions.  Striking up a conversation we found out the driver is a licensed local hunting guide, specializing in helping holders of a bear license fill their tag.  Since that seemed to me a rather seasonal line of work, I asked him what other employment he had, and he replied he works as a card dealer in a Minneapolis casino to support  his back woods existence hunting and fishing.
All in all it was an interesting day, but we didn’t get much yard work done, and it beckons this morning.
