5/10/12 UNEXPECTEDLY STRONG SHOWING FOR EMBATTLED WISCONSIN GOVERNOR WALKER

IT'S GOING TO TO BE A FINE DAY

FLOWERING CRAB TREES ARE BLOOMING

FORGET-ME-NOTS AND TULIPS

DALOU'S WOOD FIRED PIZZARIA IN WASHBURN

Thursday, 8:00 AM.  47 degrees F, wind NW, light.  The humidity is low, the sky is partly cloudy and the barometer predicts the same.  It is a fine day.
Crabapples are bursting into bloom now, and soon there will be hundreds in bloom all around, including in the orchards where they serve as pollinators.  There are still daffodils, and if the weather holds it will be a wonderful Bayfield in Bloom kickoff tomorrow.  Don’t forget to tune in to the Garden Talk radio show tomorrow on Wisconsin Public Radio (also streaming live) from 10:00 AM to noon CDT.  Or come to see the show live if you are local.
As those of you who have been following the attempted recall of Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker are aware, a primary election for Democratic and Republican candidates for the June 5th recall election was held this past Tuesday.  With all the Wisconsin primary election numbers now in, incumbent Scott Walker polled extremely, and unexpectedly, well with 626,538 votes.  The total Democratic votes cast, for all the competing candidates, was 670,278 votes.  Remember, this was essentially a Democratic primary election, with little incentive for Republicans to turn out, since Walker had only token opposition on the Republican ticket.  These numbers do not bode well for the Democrats and their now-chosen candidate, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett.  Republican turnout was almost as great as Democrat turnout, and if Republican enthusiasm can be maintained over the coming weeks Walker should retain his office.  This in spite of the fact that Big Labor has poured absolutely everything into defeating Walker; and if Walker wins in June, that will be a precursor to an Obama defeat in November.
We stopped a Dalou's for pizza in Washburn yesterday evening...the best pizza west of da Bronx and north of Chicago!
