ACCEPTING THE CHALLENGE

A COLD, DAMP, BUT STILL COLORFUL APPLEFEST SATURDAY

 THE POTTED BEGONIAS LOVE IT...

AS DO THE HYDRANGEAS (AT LAST)...

...ALSO THE ROSES AND THE GARDENS (AT LEAST FOR NOW)
Saturday, 9:00 AM.  43 degrees F at the ferry dock, 40 on the back porch.  The wind is westerly, with light to moderate gusts.  The sky is overcast and a misty rain is falling.  We got .6" of rain last night and the humidity is 80%.  The barometer is steady, at 29.61".
The fall color is still spectacular, although muted in the damp atmosphere. As is typical, our leaf color along the lakeshore hangs on, when regions south have lost theirs. Gardens are still glorious, as we have not had a frost.
It is a rather inauspicious beginning to Applefest 2014, but not that unusual.  Visitors will still come, many from afar.  Applefest is rather like visiting the ice caves; something of an adventure and a bit of a challenge.
