OHIO BUCKEYES, HUSKS SPLITTING OPEN... |

...THE PERFECT BUCKEYE FOR GOOD LUCK |
Sunday, 8:30 AM. 39 degrees at the ferry dock, 36 on the back porch. The wind is SW, very light with light to moderate gusts. The sky is still overcast, the humidity is 70% and the barometer is trending down, presaging more rain sometime tomorrow. Last night the temperature got down pretty close to freezing, and I have started bringing plants in for the winter.
It is Applefest parade day morning, and the truck has to be decorated for the parade, which starts at 2:00 PM. With some luck it won't rain.
Speaking of luck, remember the post of September 26, about Ohio buckeyes? Well, the buckeye (
Aesculus glabra) fruits have been sitting on the living room table since then, and yesterday the soft, leathery husks split open, most containing one buckeye, some two, and I now have a whole handful of buckeye good luck charms. The best one is already in my pocket.
