WINTER IS BACK, AND SO ARE THE EAGLES

BUDDY ON THE FROZEN  BEACH

EAGLES ARE BACK TO NEST...OR MAYBE THEY NEVER LEFT
Sunday, 8:30 AM.  9 degrees F at the ferry dock, 7 on the back porch.  Wind NNE, moderately to strongly gusty.  The humidity is 78% and the barometer stands at 30.46" and is falling.  Winter is back.
Buddy got another run on the beech yesterday; it was sunny but really nippy for a short haired dog.
I saw a mature bald eagle close up on Chequamegon Road yesterday .  It flew out of the woods and into the open where I saw another eagle, very high.  Perhaps they are a mating pair (I took this photo a year ago, on almost the same date).
The eagles may stay the winter here if there is some open water, and if not they will probably migrate to the Mississippi River and its open water tributaries. Some winters there is a lot of deer carrion for them to feed on but I haven't seen much this winter.  But in any case it is very close to mating and nesting season and it seems that was what these birds were about.
