CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR

A COLD AND FOGGY MORNING,  BUT CLEARING RAPIDLY

PURPLE FINCH...CLOSE, BUT NO CIGAR
Wednesday,  8:45 AM.  10 degrees F, wind W, calm with light gusts.  The sky is partly cloudy but clearing and there is heavy fog over the channel.  The humidity is 80% and the barometer, now at 30.12", is still falling.
We have been watching for other than the "usual suspects" at the bird feeder all winter but have seen little but juncos, chickadees and gold finches, and a one-time visit by a frisky mob of tiny pine siskins.  Well, yesterday I spotted a gorgeous male rose-breasted grosbeak sitting on a pine branch in the back yard.  He flew off before I could snap his photo, but then I thought he landed at the feeder.  In the process he morphed into this purple finch.  Close, but no cigar.
