8/06/11 NEW BOAT RAMP; HIGHER USER FEES?

RAIN? MAYBE TONIGHT

LOTS OF PARKING

NICELY DONE

RAIN GARDENS

8:15 AM.  69 degrees, wind W, calm.  The sky is clear except for wispy, thin stratospheric clouds running west to east, forecasting an approaching front.  The barometer predicts rain.  Perhaps tonight.
The new public boat ramp is being used heavily by recreational boaters.  It greatly relieves the  parking problems caused by boats, trailers and vehicles on adjacent streets.  It has a rest room facility and boat washing station (to wash off clinging aquatic plants that may be invasive and spread elsewhere), and rain gardens to catch parking lot runoff.  It was built with a state/federal matching grant so it is costing the city some money, and I hope the use rates are increased to help pay for it.  Reasonable and affordable user fees, not just taxes, should support our amenities and infrastructure.
