APPLEFEST PARKING RESTRICGTIONS GOING INTO EFFECT... |
THE STAGE ON RITTENHOUSE AVE. IS UP
THE CARNIVAL IS IN TOWN |
THE INDIAN COMMAND CENTER IS IN PLACE |
Bayfield is getting ready for the start of Applefest tomorrow. The city will be mobbed with cars, and parking has to be controlled so that emergency routes are kept open and emergency vehicles can negotiate narrow, vehicle choked streets. Ninth Street has no parking its entire length from Hwy. 13 to Washington Ave., and will serve as a through route around downtown, which is basically closed to traffic. A cautionary note; stop signs on 9th St. will be hooded to create better traffic flow, but that is confusing for local residents, so proceed with caution.
The stage on Rittenhouse Ave., where the street entertainment is virtually constant for the next three days, is up and ready.
The carnival has arrived and is set up. Every small town needs an annual carnival with its kiddie rides and cotton candy once a year, and this one is pretty good.
This year there is a very impressive Command Center trailer parked on First Street. It evidently replaces the dilapidated Bayfield Police Command Center that looks like something out of an old Keystone Cops flick . This facility sports the logo of GLIFWC (Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wild Life Commission). I don't know if the command center is here to control the Applefest crowds, the fish, the wildlife, or the Indians.
As with the current Washington impasse, I guess we will just have to wait and see who is going to control what.
