"THE SUN ALSO..." FREEZES

THE  MADELINE ISLAND FERRIES HAVE STOPPED RUNNING...

...AND THE SMALLER WIND SLEDS HAVE BEGUN 

Sunday,  9:00 AM.  -11 degrees downtown, somewhat warmer on the back porch.  The wind is calm.The sky is cloudless with  some steam still rising from the frozen over channel.  The humidity is 80% and the barometer is high, at 30.44".  I put buddy's jacket on him when we went for our morning walk but he didn't really need it.  I put on my wool vest but didn't really need it either.  With no wind and a thawing sun it was very tolerable, although we didn't stay out very long.  We'll take another walk later.
   The Madeline Island Ferry stopped running yesterday, certainly the earliest cessation of service since we moved here thirteen years ago.  The path through the ice is already pretty well frozen over, and like a healing scar, will soon leave no trace.
   The ferries now are icebound at the dock, stuck like the Russian ship the Academik Sholkalskiy and the Chinese ice breaker the Snow Dragon, down in the Antarctic ocean. The US Coastguard ship Polar Star is heading from Australia to help out and might get itself stuck in the process.  It appears that both north and south poles are reasserting themselves with great vigor.
   Much more of this "Global Warming" and we shall all freeze to death.
