KEEPING OUR FINGERS CROSSED

A CHILL, GRAY MORNING

BAYFIELD HARBOR,  CHANNEL AND MADELINE ISLAND

FERRY ROUTE THROUGH THE ICE
Friday, 9:00 AM.  27 degrees F on the Ferry Dock, 25 on the back porch. Wind calm to light, variable. The sky is overcast, the humidity 66%, the barometer is steady, at 30.14".  The Bayfield weather is back to normal.
When we left for Denver eleven days ago the ferry was running but the ice was still pretty solid where it had not been broken.  Now the ice is quite rotten and a lot of open water is evident, but it still hangs on, despite warm weather and high winds from various directions.  There is no longer any obvious traffic from Bayfield to Madeline Island across the rotting ice, but I suppose there are still some snowmobilers scooting across.
So far I am not aware of any deaths or near-deaths on the Chequamegon Bay winter's ice, but we will keep our  fingers crossed until the ice goes out.
