Monday, 9:00 AM.  64 degrees F at the ferry dock, 62 on the back porch.  Wind N, light with occasional stronger gusts.  The sky is overcast and cloudy and it continues to rain lightly after heavier rain last night that left .4" of rain.  The humidity is 91% and the barometer now stands at 29.81" and is rising, predicting nice weather for the balance of the week.
   Ashland has a new outdoor oriented business, Solstice Outdoors. It is located on US Hwy. 2 on the lakeshore, next to an Ashland city beach. We joked a lot about the design of the building, since it seems as though it is intended to look like a ship.  We speculated that it might be Noah's Ark, and were looking for a giraffe to be sticking its head out of an upstairs window.
   Kidding aside, now that the business is open it is more obvious what they have to offer, which is: kayak, paddle board, sailboard and other water-sports rentals, bicycle rentals, and in the winter snow shoe and cross-country ski rentals.
In addition they have sales areas for for outdoor clothing and camping equipment, and a small coffee-shop type restaurant with lake view, and on the top floor, five rather high-end nightly rental units.  All-in-all, a welcome addition to the Ashland business scene, which seems to becoming more and more aware of the tourist potential of the city.
