MILFOIL (YARROW) IS BLOOMING

ROADSIDE MILFOIL

A PINK GARDEN VARIETY YARROW
FOGGY BEACH

Saturday, 8:30 AM.  68 degrees F, wind SSW, light with occasional gusts.  The sky is clear with some haze, and fog over the lake.  The humidity is 92% and the barometer is presently steady, at 30.02".  It will be, as the song says, a "Lazy, hazy day of summer."
I took Buddy to the beach this morning early, where he had a good run and I a good walk.  It was foggy and the beach grass wet with dew, which got him soaking wet.  After which of course he wanted to be a lap dog, but that didn't happen.
Milfoil, or yarrow (Achillea milifolium) in the Sunflower Family (Compositae)is a common garden and roadside plant. Horticultural varieties may have yellow, white or rose colored flowers, the roadside plants (including several native species and their varieties, although most are Eurppean) are usually white. It is said that Achilles discovered its styptic properties and used the leaves to stop the bleeding of war wounds, and promote healing. I have used it on cuts, and it works. It is also often used to stop severe nosebleeds. So another common name is military plant. The specific name also refers to the finely dissected leaves, thus yet another common name, “million leaves.”
