WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY, AND HE IS US

ASHLAND LIGHTHOUSE

CHEQUAMEGON BAY

WASHBURN ACROSS THE BAY

Friday, 9:00 AM.  47 degrees F at the ferry dock, 43 on the back porch.  Wind S, with light gusts.  The sky is cloudy but clearing, the humidity 73%.  The barometer is at 30.09" and falling, predicting possible rain on Saturday and Monday.
Yesterday we had to go to Ashland and in the process ended up eating fast food in a lakefront park.  With the lights on.  That left us with a dead battery, so I had plenty of time to take some photos of the lake while waiting for AAA help to arrive.
Washburn is six miles across the Bay from Ashland, ten miles by road.  There is an interesting lighthouse at the end of the Ashland break water.  Ashland has a wonderful harbor, it is too bad it is seldom if ever used by freighters these days.
OFF THE CUFF
I have always said that a country gets the kind of government it deserves, and now it is our turn.  Our American society has become so venal, so undisciplined and so vulgar that it is what we  expect and accept in our political class; both parties and their respective candidates.
We have now the choice of a lecher or a liar for president.  I see no chance of better prospects being presented to the public, because our politicians are the mirror image of the population.  If we wish to see what is wrong with the nation, all we have to do is look in the mirror, each and every one of us.  It took a long time to get to this point, and it will take a long time,  if ever,  to go back.
We and our children are assaulted continually by pornography; we glorify violence in entertainment; we believe winning is everything; we live for instant gratification in all things;  religion is old fashioned, and all morality is situational.
   As Pogo so famously said:
