AMERIAN CHESTNUT TREES, AND ELIMINATING THE SPOOKS, BEAN COUNT ERS AND LAWYERS

AMERICAN CHESTNUT FLOWERS...

...AND TOOTHED LEAVES

Thursday, 7:30 AM.  71 degrees F, either the wind or the weather vane is stuck on NW, the sky is cloudless with haze in the east and the barometer is down.  Looks like it will be a hot, humid day but it is quite pleasant now.
Last night Joan and I  went to a Chamber of Commerce After Hours meeting at Port Superior, which is the third-largest private port on the Lake and has a fine restaurant, motel, condominiums, charters and boat rentals, rental and owner slips, and on and on.  The food and company were excellent.
The American chestnut trees, Castanea dentata (in the beech family, the Fagaceae) of which there are several in town, are in bloom.  They have an aroma like freshly turned earth, which I find pleasant enough but others might not.  The flower spikes look for all the world like pipe cleaners.  The species name, dentata, denotes the sharply toothed leaves. I have talked before in considerable detail about the Amrican chestnut, just search this blog for more information.
Have you heard that the Internal Revenue Service is hiring unprecedented numbers of new staff, to enforce Obamacare penalties (taxes)?  Just what we need, more federal snoops!  The power to tax is the power to destroy, and America is about to be destroyed by the use of the taxing power of the federal government to force Americans to …what will come next?
I have come to believe that the IRS must be completely eliminated to protect our liberties, and the only way to do that is to get rid of the income tax as we know it and replace it with something similar to Herman Cain’s often scoffed at 9/9/9 concept.  Collect taxes automatically at the source and get rid of all the spooks, bean counters and perhaps the greatest blessing of all, the lawyers.
