ICE WATCH (CONTINUED)

LOTS OF OPEN WATER ON THE CHANNEL THIS MORNING

ICE AT THE BEACH (Open water at mouth of Sioux River)
BUDDY FOUND SOME FRIENDS TO RUN WITH
A REAL VEGETABLE GARDEN!

Saturday, 8:30 AM.  42 degrees F, wind SW, calm with occasional gusts.  The sky is cloudy and overcast but the sun is struggling to shine through, as it did yesterday afternoon to finish the day in good form.  The humidity is 79% and the barometer is down a bit, at 29.73".
We now are in the month of May and the lake ice is still there!  The ice on the Sioux River beach shows few signs of leaving, although there is a large amount of open water now off the mouth of the Sioux River.  Buddy found some friends at the beach late yesterday afternoon and had a great time running.  But no swimming.
There is a lot of open water on the channel between Bayfield and Madeline Island now, and I can't imagine the ice will  last much longer.  There is still no sign of ice breaking up in the lower Chequamegon Bay, between Ashland and Washburn.
Stephen and Nami's high tech garden, on the corner of 10th St. and Wilson Ave., looks like it is ready for planting as soon as the weather warms up.  I don't know what might be under the plastic, I'll have to ask next time I see them.  I am very attracted to gardens that are neat, precise and geometrical, even though my own seldom are.
