WHY DID THE GROUSE CROSS THE ROAD, AND OTHER TRIVIA.

SIOUX RIVER ABOVE BIG ROCK; ROILED AND ROARING

ROSE HEDGE: ALL CLEANED UP

...DITTO SOUTH SIDE OF HOUSE...

...AND PERENNIAL GARDEN

WHY DID THE GROUSE CROSS THE ROAD?
Monday, 8:30 AM.  34 degrees F, wind ENE, calm to very light.  The sky is overcast and it rained some last night and is still drippy.  The humidity is up to 93% and the barometer is more or less steady, at 30.14".  We're off to pick up a truckload of plants at Northwoods Nursery this  morning, it will be a perfect day to do so.
I pretty much spent the weekend cleaning up the yard and gardens from the winter, and I still have a lot more to do. But I have the perennial garden, rose hedge and south side of the house pretty well under control.
I say it every spring, and will say it again...there is no way to get in shape for gardening but to garden.  I managed to work until noon Sunday, but the rest of the day was spent trying to recover by watching the Brewers loose a squeaker to Cincinnati and then taking a ride to check out the Sioux River.  It is still roiled and roaring, but a few intrepid anglers were risking a dunking fishing it.  I will wait a week or two before I put a boot in it.
After visiting the Big Rock on the Siou to see if any steelhead were scaling it (none yet) we saw this grouse ambling across Friendly Valley Road;  it quite obviously wished to get to the other side. Buddy spotted it and rolled down his window (yes, he has learned to do that and it can be disconcerting) and pointed it, while hanging halfway out the window.
What a river! What a grouse! What a dog!
