BEAR TRACKS ON THE DECK AGAIN...INTERESTED BUDDY |
A ROBIN LOOKING READY TO CATCH THE NEXT FLIGHT SOUTH... |
...BUT THIS GOLDFINCH IS READY TO GO A COURTIN' |
Thursday, 8:30 AM. 32 degrees F at the ferry dock, 29 on the back porch. Wind variable, calm with moderate gusts. The sky is overcast and there are low hanging, darkly ominous snow clouds. The humidity is 86%, the barometer 29.85" and steady. It looks like it will be an unsettled weekend, weather wise
We are leaving for Milwaukee in a short while; first to attend a niece's wedding on Friday, next to go to a Milwaukee Brewer baseball game on Saturday evening. We are staying with my cousin Susan and will probably be doing other visiting as well. Buddy is staying at Blue Ribbon Kennels in Ashland this trip, where he can bark and howl to his heart's content.
Our next-door Coast Guard neighbor caught our bear on his trail camera Tuesday evening. It was on our porch at 10:00 PM and the trail camera photo was taken minutes earlier so it was probably the same animal. He said its back stood as high as the hood of his wife's car in the driveway. A lot bigger than I assumed, from his footprints. He was back again last night, his telltale footprints investigating every corner of the house and up to every door. He is evidently a very hungry bear.
The Robbins are looking rather dazed and wondering why they didn't watch the weather channel before they headed north. But the Goldfinches are all decked out in their finest, ready to go a courtin'. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.
