A QUIET, PLACID MORNING
THE BROWNSTONE TRAIL BRIDGE IS STILL OUT
TOO FAR TO JUMP ACROSS
NORWAY SPRUCE CONE
Sunday, 7:45 AM. 39 degrees, up from 35 degrees an hour ago. Wind W, calm. The sky is clear with some haze, and the barometer predicts sunshine. The channel is like glass. It is a quiet morning, infused with birdsong.
There are some magnificent old Norway spruce (Picea abies) around town, and they have shed last year’s cones, their size distinguishing them from other common spruce cones, which are much shorter.
We walked a portion of the Brownstone Trail along the lake this morning, and found the ravine bridge still out. When it is open again I intend to make more frequent use of this beautiful two-mile trail.
