SURF'S UP ON THE BAY IN ASHLAND

Friday, 8:00 AM.  49 degrees F at the ferry dock, 43 on the back porch.  Wind ESE, calm with moderate gusts.  The sky is clear, the humidity 76%.  The barometer is declining gradually, now at 30.50".  Perfect weather for the first full day of Applefest.
   Yesterday afternoon in Ashland (I am still going to the hospital for antibiotic shots) the surf was up, propelled by a strong N wind.  A large flock of gulls landed on the water and immediately disappeared, looking themselves like the whitecaps that they landed amongst.
