IN THE GOOD OLD SUMMERTIME

IRIS, HARRISON'S YELLOW ROSES, AND RUE ANEMOMES

Saturday, 8:00 AM.  71 degrees F, wind calm to very light, mostly from the WNW.  The sky is somewhat clear but hazy, and it looks like it will become overcast as the day goes on.  The humidity is 77%, and the barometer is trending down, currently to 29.83".  There are probably some showers in our near future.
The pinkish flower above is rue anemone, Anemonella thalictroides, in the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae).  It is a not uncommon native plant of open woods and pastures further south, and often grown in the garden.  The yellow rose is the Yellow Rose of Texas, AKAHarrison's yellow rose.  It has an interesting history and folklore, please use the blog search engine to see the accounts in prior blogs.
Eva and the kids are going on the new glass bottom boat tour of shipwrecks and such this afternoon. We will get a first hand report and ask them to take some photos.
Folks, it's the "Good Old Summertime."  Good for grilling out, going to the beach, baseball, enjoying the grandkids.
The flip side is that it's also good for mowing the lawn,  pulling weeds  in the garden, and trimming trees and shrubs that are greatly overgrown.
The Good Old Summertime ain't all fun and games!
