6/04/11 A BIT OF HISTORY

THE OUTER ISLAND, U S LCT 203
Saturday, 9:00 AM.  71 degrees, wind NW, calm.  The sky is clear, the barometer high, a beautiful day for the Bayfield in Bloom Garden Tours.
Pictured is US LCT (Landing Craft Tank) 203, now named The Outer Island.  It is purported to be the last active WWII LCT,  now used as a work vessel for dredging, etc. in the Bayfield area.  Local legend says it took part in the Normandy D Day invasion.  In 2007 a convention of LCT sailors came to Bayfield and cruised the Islands on it.  It’s hard to get a good picture of it as it is always engaged in some activity that makes it difficult.  Anway, it is a bit of world and local history
