RAIN, BEARS AND ROSE HIPS

RAIN, SNOW, FOG

RUGOSA ROSE HIPS

Saturday, 9:00 AM.  33 degrees F, wind NNE, light with stronger gusts.  the barometer is steady at 30.27 in. and the humidity is 94%.  It has been raining, at times quite hard.  The system that has been stalled over us is moving away, very slowly.  At this rate their will be snow in the woods and on north facing hillside in the middle of May.
One of the Coastguard guys that lives on N 2nd St on the edge of town reported a mama bear guarding her three cubs that had climbed a tree in the yard.  She stood on her hind legs, growled and barred her teeth at him as be beat a hasty retreat back to the house.  I still haven't seen tracks or scat in our neighborhood.
The rugosa rose,  Rosa rugosa, is an introduced species that escapes to fence rows and field edges.  Its rose hips are bright red in the snow.
