TWO FLORETS OF MULTIPLE FLOWERS... |
|
NOTE THE YELLOW ANTHERS AND THE RED PETALS... |
|
...BUT THE CASUAL OBSERVER MAY NOT NOITCE THE TREE IN BLOOM |
Thursday, 8;30 AM. 39 degrees F, wind NE, moderate with stronger gusts. The sky is overcast and it is raining. The barometer stands at 30.16 in. and the humidity is 88%. This looks like a warmer version of the slow moving system that gave us our last snow storm.
The red maple (
Acer rubrum) on Manypenny that I watch for flowering every spring is now in full bloom, the blossoms very pretty, although they are not significant enough, even in great number, to make the tree stand out to the casual observer. When the red maples bloom I can say for sure that spring has arrived. To compare with past bloom dates, use the blog search engine.
We are heading to Northwoods Nursery in Rhinelander today to pick up city trees as the nurseries are all backed up with digging and shipping and I need trees for our Arbor Day planting next Friday, as part of the annual Bayfield in Bloom kickoff. It is an all day trip but is usually quite pleasant.
