Sunday, 9:30 AM. 35 degrees F, wind ENE, light. It is overcast and foggy, the ferry and pier fog horns blowing incessantly. The barometer is steady at 30.27 in. and the humidity is 97%. Welcome to Seattle, Wisconsin.
Daughter-in-law Leslie and granddaughter Allison left this morning to drive to Minneapolis and fly back to Texas. We had a great visit and Allison got her fill of playing in the Bayfield snow. The house seems very quiet, and Buddy is looking for his little playmate.
Our late, late spring and overly generous snow cover has led to a lot of debate locally over " Global Warming," and probably nobody has changed their opinion much, except that "Change" is probably now the operative word.
And, since change is the only constant in life, it is worth noting again that it was less than forty years ago that the great fear was the return of the ice age, as referenced in an article from the New York Times, dated May 21, 1975, sent to me by blog reader Doug Petersen, which I was unable to download to the blog. If anyone wants to read it in its entirety I will email it to them.
Scientists Ask Why World Climate Is Changing; Major Cooling May Be Ahead
By Walter Sullivan. The lengthy, authoritative article pretty much put forward the same arguments and facts to promote global cooling as are now used to promote global warming or global change.
It seems theories about climate change are as changeable as the climate itself.
To quote that famous climatologist Chicken Little, "The sky is falling! The sky is falling! I must run and tell the king!
